College of Biblical Studies: The Whole Annual Fund Picture

John Boal, former Vice President of Development at College of Biblical Studies Houston said, “Often times we are too close to see any holes that may exist.” He knew that they needed someone who could take a step back and see the whole picture. After meeting one of the Advocace team members at an ABHE conference, Boal called Advocace for help.

Huge Vision

CBS Houston marches forward with the overall goal of “providing college-level training in Bible and theology for individuals with little or no opportunity to receive such training.” With a huge vision like theirs, Advocace “has come alongside to evaluate and help [CBS Houston] plan annual fund projects.” “The most significant change so far is the heightened awareness that major gifts often arise from a solid annual fund program,” said Boal. These annual fund projects ensure funding for the provision of more solid, Biblical training.

Many Benefits

John relayed, “The most beneficial part has been having someone from the outside review our processes and planning.” He went on to say, “It is always encouraging to have another person in the trenches of development work and someone who can help construct a response devise or key year-end appeal letter.”

“[Another] specific benefit is to have a coach available for my Annual Fund Director to call on when I might not be available, or when they simply need another voice to bounce around ideas,” Boal said.

Why Work with Advocace?

With all of the work in Annual Funding, Leadership Coaching and Wealth Screening with Advocace’s Donor CompassSM, John Boal said, “I would recommend Advocace to other fund raising professionals. They have always been responsive and available when a specific need arises. The Wealth Screening has proven to be a great tool to help refine our asks, segment our donor lists, and help with time management and key donor focuses.”
