The Bridge's Successful Campaign Raises $1 Million in 60 Days

WKNZ, The Bridge, LogoSix years ago, Bill Sammons, General Manager at WKNZ-FM, The Bridge, had a vision. He wanted to start a listener-supported, Christian radio station “to connect people to God and to each other” in Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. There was one problem: Bill had never worked at a nonprofit station before. Non-commercial, listener-supported radio was new for him and he knew he needed help to get it on the air. So, he called Advocace and said “it’s one of the smartest decisions he’s ever made”.

The Bridge’s Beginnings

Before The Bridge went on the air in December 2011, Advocace came on-board to help with Major Gifts. Together they set up budget, goals, a yearly plan, and a reporting system. Most importantly, Advocace acted as accountability for Bill and his team. The Bridge team knew that “every Monday morning at 10:30” Randy Bronkema would call and ask what they had done to move their mission forward.

Two Wildly Successful Major Gift Projects

Since The Bridge’s beginning, Bill and his team have done a lot of work “to connect people to God and to each other”. One particular feat came with the success of a Major Gift project where Advocace helped The Bridge raise $1 million to purchase the station from Eagle’s Nest Church. And they raised that money in just 60 days. WKNZ-FM became an independent, listener-supported station in July 2015.

Three months later, WKNZ launched another Major Gift project to raise funds to move into a larger facility with new equipment and new furniture. They currently work from that facility and are completely debt free.
