There is one “doable” course of action which can help prevent your non-profit from taking a swan-dive into the summer slump season. You won’t be able to “fix” your empty treasure chest instantly. But remember, it’s the long, slow way of the turtle that eventually wins the race.

I’m talking about setting up a monthly giving program. It’s not flashy. It’s not instant. But it works! 

Encouraging your donors to give monthly makes a lot of sense. It helps you set budgets. It gives you consistent income (especially if those gifts come in regularly because of credit/debit card giving or EFT). And, if you add up those monthly gifts (even if they’re in the $20 to $50 a month range) you’ll find that they are equal to, if not greater than, many of your one-time gifts.

If you don’t have a monthly giving program in place, now is the time to start. Ward off next-year’s summer slump through the generous, regular gifts from your monthly donors.
